Buffalo-Niagara: An Experience of a moment

The most surreal experience I ever had. Natural beauty at its apex. An unforgottable journey.

Travel May 24, 2023 to May 25, 2023

Driving through the serene New York countryside, I was captivated by the picturesque landscapes of hay bales scattered across vast fields and quaint towns dotted with cozy cottages. As the day drew to a close, I arrived in Buffalo, a charming city nestled near the majestic Niagara Falls State Park. Our inn was a cozy getaway near the Niagara Falls State Park itself. The ambience was beautiful around the small town, the weather was pleasantly cold and the evening air invigorating. After a hearty dinner, I dressed up to witness the firecracker show that takes place over Niagara Falls. (I do not, by any means, encourage firecrackers; As PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O'Brien puts it, “Blighting a natural wonder with fireworks that fill the air with toxins and traumatize wildlife, companion animals, and humans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder is indefensible.”)

The next day, I was up early, feeling the amazing vibes of Buffalo, eating in a family-run eatery that was small and wholesome. After a stroll through the park, we got our tickets and jackets. The people on the American side got blue jackets and the people boarding on the opposite side got red. The whole “Maid of the Mist” experience felt surreal to me. I got a front seat. The falls were epic and majestic. As the falls came closer, droplets splashed on me and everyone else on board the ferry. It felt different as we came closer. Fog and mist added a sense of awe to the vista. At the closest point, I was drenched in water. I had put off my head cover from the jacket to feel the cold breeze along with fresh water. The falls were huge. They were magical. They were beautiful. In addition, I had never seen so many seagulls in one place.

I don’t have quite as many pictures of the experience itself as I was immersed in it and neither words nor digital pixels are enough to express the allure and majesty of the experience. It was from another universe. Never had I been subject to something that I enjoyed so much. Niagara Falls will always hold a very special place in my heart and the experience of “the Maid of the Mist” will always be truly special. Before departing, I enjoyed one last panoramic view of the falls and purchased a few souvenirs to commemorate this unforgettable journey
